The ruling authorities in the 18th century led to demolishment of various empires due to the British rule.
- Royal empires had steadily missed their control and authority since the mid-18th century. The British government diminished their liberty, dispersed their armed forces, and also abolished the tax revenues and territories.
- To officially put an end to the Mughal empire, the company also took many steps. The Mughal king's official name was stripped from the standard coins.
- The British government passed a new law in 1856 specifying any new person who took up employment in the army had to consent and to serve overseas. The religious and cultural feelings of the sepoys were violated by such policies.
- The severe taxes and tight practices of revenue collection were resented by peasants and zamindars. Indian sepoys were unhappy about their modest salaries, proper allowances, and state of work in the armies of the Company.
