Two social tensions in India are:

- Caste: No matter how many years we have earned our independence since, caste is still a much debated issue. Be it regarding the necessity or not of caste based reservations in highly competitive fields like the educational institutions or the unchanged mind set of many 'upper' castes regarding the 'lower' castes, caste is still a social tension in India.

- Gender: With incoming feminism and their budding progress in our country, people are still confused about what is the 'right way' for each gender to be. Trans-genders are an additional group that has been included into this spectrum with some people accepting and others disagreeing to accept this as a normal means of lifestyle. These further complicate gender as a social tension.
