Origin of trade winds:

The warm air from equator rises and moves towards the northern hemisphere and are deflected towards the right where the air cools down over the tropics. As the air cools, the winds move back towards the equator again. A similar phenomenon happens in the southern hemisphere which is call southwest tradewinds.

The following are the characteristics of Northeast trade winds:

a) They are the winds that blow from equator towards Northern hemisphere.

b) The northeast trade winds help sailors with their sailing of ships.

c) The northeast trade winds, together with the southeast trade winds (when they cancel each other's intensity) create something called Doldrums. The area has calm and still air, which, in the earlier days, when ships were wind-propelled, used to make the ship stagnate for days together because of lack of winds to move it.

d) Trade winds are favourable to ships as they aid the ships in good sailing.

Here the surface air which started to flow from the part of the subtropical and highly pressure belts toward the areas of the equators and it is toward in the part of the west in each hemisphere by the Coriolis Effect.

This wind started to follow predominantly from the part of the northeast in the northern hemispheres and also in the southeast in the southern hemisphere.
