Pitcher plant is an insectivore or insectivorous plant.

A plant which supplements it nutrients by trapping and digesting animals particularly insects, are called insectivores or insectivorous plants.

So a Pitcher Plant obtains its nutrition by trapping and digesting insects.

  • pitcher plant has a heterotrophic mode of nutrition in which it has to fulfill it's requirement of nitrogen
  • it can even perform photosynthesis but very rarely by its petiole
