Plants adapted for cross-pollinationhave several mechanisms to preventself-pollination; the reproductive organs may be arranged in such a way that self-fertilisation is unlikely, or the stamens and carpels may mature at different times.

ADAPTATION FOR CROSS POLLINATION
1. The plant are monoecius ( plants possess some flowers that are female and others that are male).
2. The plant are dioecius( is one where the male and female reproductive systems occur on separate plants. While both plants produce flowers, one plant has the male reproductive parts and the other plant has the female parts. This is unlike a monoecious plant, which has both male and female flowers. )
3. The male and female parts mature at different time. exmple cowpea
4. The flower are herkogamous, ie . there is a physical barrier between the male and female parts, which prevent pollen grains from reaching the stigma. example Zea maize
