For example, in animals fat is stored in adipose tissue, and carbohydrate – in the form of the storage compound glycogen – is stored in liver and muscle cells. In plants starch is a major storage compound, being found in perennating organs (see perennation) and seeds (in which it is mobilized at germination), and oils are important storage materials in some species (e.g. in the seeds of the castor-oil plant).

Food reserves in animals is stored in the form of fatty acids, carbohydrates, protein. they are present in the cell tissue of the animal so that when needed, it can be utilized in the conversion of ATP for energy. Different kind of fat is stored in different kind of tissues for example fat is stored in the adipose tissue whereas the carbohydrates are stored in the liver and muscles cell tissues.
