The Himalayas form a mountain range in Asia separating the plains of the Indian sub continent from the Tibetan Plateau. The Himalayan range has many of the Earth's highest mountain peaks, including the highest, Mount Everest. The great Himalayas include over fifty mountains exceeding 7,200 meters (23,600 ft) in elevation. The Himalayan range is bordered on the Northwest by the Karakoram and Hindu Kush ranges, on the North by the Tibetan Plateau, and on the South by the Indo-Gangetic Plain.


Characteristics of Great Himalayas -

The Great Himalayas or Greater Himalayas also known as Himadri comprises of all the major mountain ranges of Himalayas. The characteristics of Great Himalayas are as follows.


1) It includes all the highest mountain peaks of Himalayan Range.


2) Many glaciers such as Gangotri and Siachen originate from the Great Himalayas.


3) it is the northern most range of the Himalayas, also called greater Himalayas or inner Himalayas.


4) The Great Himalayas includes mountain peaks with average height of around 6000 meters.


5) The Zoji La Pass is situated in the Great Himalayas and serves as the only link between Ladakh and Kashmir.
