The River Ganga is a trans-boundary river of the Indian subcontinent which flows through the two nations i.e., India and Bangladesh. The 1,569 miles or 2,525 km river rises in the western Himalayas of Uttrakhand, India and flows south and east through the well known Gangetic Plain of North India. Then after entering West Bengal, it divides into two rivers and they are mainly the River Hooghly and the River Padma.
The River Hooghly flows through several districts of West Bengal and at last into the Bay of Bengal near the Sagar Island. The other river i.e., the River Padma flows into as well as through Bangladesh, and joins the Meghna river which ultimately empties into the Bay of Bengal.
