Answer:

A cactus is able to survive in a desert due to the following features.

Explanation:

1)  It has long roots which go deep inside the soil for soaking (absorbing) water, as in deserts there is water scarcity.

2)  The leaves of a cactus are in the form of spines to prevent water loss through transpiration. Cacti have spines for shade, protection from herbivores, and help make new plants.

3)  It has succulent(fleshy) stems to hold(store) water. The stem is covered with a thick waxy layer that helps to retain water.

4) Stem of a cactus is altered(modified) into a flat green stem to help in preserving(conserving) water also to prepare food via photosynthesis.

5) They are short in size in order to conserve energy.
