Angiosperms are further classified in to two two subgroups on the basis of number of cotyledons.

I) Monocots---These angiosperms have only one cotyledons.The other cotyledon is called scutellum in grass family.

ii) Dicots -- These angiosperms have two cotyledons hence they are called dicotyledons.

Amgiosperms are sub divided into two class :
1. Dicotyledonae- These plants have two cotyledons in their embryo and have tap root system .
e.g: Sunflower, china rose
2. Monocotyledonae- These plants have single cotyledon and they have adventitious root system.
e.g: Maize, Jowar
