Asthma

Allergic disorder in which expiration becomes difficult. Caused due to the bronchial obstruction of smooth muscles or spasms. It is characterized by expiratory wheeze or whistling.

Bronchitis

  • Inflammation of bronchi and bronchioles.

  • Caused due to hypertrophy(enlargement due to the increase in size of cell) and hyperplasia(enlargement due to the increase in multiplication of cells) of the goblet cells and sero-mucous lands of bronchi.

  • Symptoms are coughing with thick greenish yellow septum due to infection resulting in excessive secretion of mucus.

Emphysema: Caused due to the irreversible distention of the alveoli, bronchioles and alveolar sacs. Develops mainly due to smoking. Here, the wall separating adjacent alveoli breakdown and gets filed with air even after expiration.
