The outer layer of a ovule became impervious and hard and function as a seed coat.

The ovary enlarge and ripens to become a fruit.Other parts such as sepals, petals, stamens, style and stigma may fall off.

Hence, in some cases they remain persistent in the fruit

  • The male germ cell fuses with the female germ cell in the ovary and forms zygote.

  • The zygote further forms the embryo.

  • The  embryo develops a protective covering or coating and forms seeds.

  • The ovary forms a fruit with seed in it.
