\boxed{\large\underline\bold{Structure~of~Chromosomes}}

Every chromosome in the condensed form during the beginning of cell division, consists of teri chromatids joined at some point along the length. This point of attachment is known as centromere. It is visible as a small constricted region. The centromere also serves the purpose of attaching to the spindle fibre when the cell division takes place. The place of centromere in every chromosome is fix i.e at a particular place. As the spindle fibre contracts, the sister chromatids are separated at the centromere, and each is pulled in opposite directions towards the respective poles of dividing cells. After the completion of cell division, the chromatids which have now become chromosomes, decondense and revert to their long and fine somewhat thread-like chromatin fibres.
