To become matured insulin, the proinsulin must have to undergo some chemical changes like removing the extra stretch.

The first step of the proinsulins way to become mature insulin is cleavage. The mature insulin must contain only the A-chain and the B-chain with a disulfide bond. In order to get the two chains the pro insulin must have to leave the extra stretch. The extra stretch is nothing but a C-Peptide chain.
