Electric current is defined as the flow of charges.
In a conductor, such as copper wire, electric current is said to flow when there is movement of negatively charged electrons from one terminal to other terminal of the potential source.
Important conditions under which the electricity flows are:
1. Potential difference (difference in voltage) must exists at the two ends of the conductor.
Eg. one end of the conductor must be connected to the voltage source, say 5V and other end is at 0 V.
2. Electric circuit must be closed.
Eg. In a circuit consisting of a Voltage source, a switch, conducting wire and a bulb, the switch must be closed to make the circuit a closed one, so that the electric current flows.
