a.Executive is that branch of the government which is responsible for executing and implementing policies.
b. We have a Parliamentary form of Government where there is a fusion of power between the legislature and the Executive and where executive emerges from the legislature and is responsible to the latter.
c. Central Executive comprises of the President who is the head of the state and the Prime Minister who is the head of the government and his Council of Ministers.
d. The President is at the apex of country's political system , all decisions are made in his name.
e. Then the Prime Minister who is appointed by the President. The President appoints the leader of the majority party or the coalition of parties that commands a majority in the Lok Sabha, as Prime Minister. In case no single party or alliance gets a majority, the President appoints the person most likely to secure a majority support. The Prime Minister can be the member of either Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha.
f. The executive also comprises of the Council of ministers which refers to the body of ministers who are appointed by the President of India on the advise of the Prime Minister, who are members of the Parliament
g. Council of Ministers includes Cabinet ministers who are incharge of major ministries and take important decisions related to those ministries.

The constitution formally vests all the executive powers in the president , which he exercises through the Prime Minister and the Council of ministers.The Central Executive looks after the affairs of the country and implement national policies .They are responsible and accountable to the Union Parliament.
It is also important to note that The Executive comprises of the following two categories in our country:
a. Political executive- It comprises of the elected members of the executive. They are the ministers who are elected by the people. The larger policy decisions of the government are taken by the political executive. It is not permanent in nature and is changed after a certain period of time through fresh mandate by the people by means of elections.
b. Permanent executive- It comprises of the bureaucracy or the civil servants who are appointed on the long term basis . It is permanent in nature and is tasked with implementing the policy decisions of the political executive
