1)The Russian workers demanded, through Gapon, to reduce the workday to 8 hours, increase wages to keep up with inflation, improve working conditions and universal suffrage.
2) War - Due to Russia's defeat in war the prices of goods were dramatically increased so the real wages were decreased by 20%
