Demerits of Bohr's theory:-

→ It does not explain the spectra of atoms having more than one electron.

→ It does not explain the splitting spectral lines into a group of finer lines under the influence of magnetic effect (Zeeman Effect of fine structure) and electric field (Stark effect or hyperfine structure).

→ Quantization of angular momentum and idea of stationary states have no theoretical basis.

→ The postulate of Bohr's theory that "electrons revolve in well defined orbits around the nucleus with well defined velocities" is not acceptable based on Heisenberg's uncertainty principle.

→ De Broglie suggested that electrons have dual character. It has particle and wave character. Bohr treated the electron only as particle.

→ It could not consider relativistic variation of mass and energy of an electron in motion.

→ It does not provide proper explanation for chemical bonding between the atoms.
