Explanation:

Women were considered as the weak in the society. They were underestimated in many ways. They were not alllowed to work outside the house, they were the puppets of her elderly and husband, they were to not show their face in the society as they wore a veil and they were mercilessly beaten for the smallest of the mistake. Further, there was a practise of sati, in which wives whose husbands have passed away, they also had to along with their husband die; so the women were forced to go in the fire.

This is how women were treated in the past. Also, today in many illiterate villages, the society discriminates women.
