'O Captain ! My Captain !' composed by 'Walt Whitman' appeared in 1867 edition of the Leaves of Grass. It was occasioned by the death of Abraham Lincoln who was assassinated after the American Civil War. The poet expresses his heart-felt grief on the death of Lincoln.
