Answer:

Prevention is better than cure.

Scorching heat in summers is often followed by unexpected downpour. As a result, the weather becomes even more torturous. Because of poor maintenance of roads, waterlogging is often seen, which results in breeding of mosquitoes and spreading of several vector-borne diseases. So, for the safety of the public, certain measures should be adopted. Firstly, stagnation of water should be checked. Secondly, the Municipal Corporation should not allow garbage accumulation anywhere and it should be properly disposed of. Thirdly, insect repellents should be used on the exposed skin and children and infants should be properly covered with full sleeve clothes. All vaccinations should be up to date. To sum up, it is therefore important to take proper precautions instead of becoming victims of vector-borne diseases.

(i) Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. Use a tissue or your elbow to cut down on the possibility of transmitting germs on your hands. Wash your hands thoroughly (at least 20 seconds) and often, especially after sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your face or other people with unwashed hands.

(ii) Insecticides, larvicides, rodenticides, Lethal ovitraps and repellents can be used to control vectors. For example, larvicides can be used in mosquito breeding zones; insecticides can be applied to house walls or bed nets, and use of personal repellents can reduce incidence of insect bites and thus infection.
