In Punjab, winter rain takes place because of the 'temperate cyclones' that originate in the Mediterranean Sea. These temperate cyclones bring rain erratically and sporadically in Punjab. The winter rain in Punjab is beneficial for 'rabi crops'.

EXPLANATION:

Tamil Nadu receives winter rain because of "North East Monsoon Winds" that blow over the "Bay of Bengal". These rains may be of different intensity and keep the temperature in Tamil Nadu moderate.
