The formation of states in India, was one of the controversial issue after the establishment of Indian Constitution.

The formation of states in colonial India was according to the convenience of British Government. After independence, it was decided that the formation of states would be according to the language spoken in the particular range of area. But somehow, the government was suspicious that the formation of states based on language would create separatism in the nation.

The \bf {Andhra \:Movement} was launched in protest against the same thing. After it, the Central Government of India, established the \bf {State \:Reorganisation \:Commission} in \bf {1953} for settlement of states boundaries. After 2 years of study, the Commission recommended that India's state boundaries should be reorganised to form 14 states and 3 union territories i.e. Andaman & Nicobar, Delhi and Manipur.

This was the only way through which states were created in India.
