Some houses used wattle ( wooven wood) and daub (mud and straw ) for the walls and had thatched roofs .Other houses from the Neolithic Period , like the ones uncovered at Skara Brae ,were built from stone .They were built into moulds of rubbish known as midden..

1step-Land was cleared.stones and pebbles were removed.Holes were dug.Wooden poles were fixed.

2step-Bamboo was cut into thin strips.Strips were then woven into mats.

3step-Bamboo mats were fixed to the poles.

4step-Thin strips of bamboo were used to make the roof.Grass was spread on the roof and then tied on to it.

5step-The whole roof was placed on top of the poles and tied firmly.The walls were plastered with mud from the inside and outside.Mud was also used to plaster the floor.
