Solid state is the state in which the matter has fixed volume and fixed shape. The intermolecular distance are less and the force of attraction between the particles are more. That is the particles are not free to move. Ex., metals except mercury. The solids are of two types, crystalline and amorphous. The arrangement of particles in the three dimensional space and the study of properties are part of solid state chemistry.
