atmosphere is responsible for the scattering of light. the particles in the atmosphere reflects the sunlight and the light coming from the sun appears to be red and the sky appears to be blue because blue can be scattered by those particlles because of its low wavelength. sky looks dark in space because there is no atmosphere. so no scattering takes place in the space and therefore it looks dark in the space.
