PRICE RISE AND SLOW AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT AS REASONS FOR POVERTY

The objective of economic development could not be achieved due to constantly increasing prices. Consequently, consistent decrease in purchasing power of rupee took place. Government administration remained ineffective in controlling the price rise. Thus, efforts to satisfy basic necessities remained unsuccessful. The poor became more wretched since prices of necessary goods were unstable.

SOCIAL REASONS FOR POVERTY -

The social reasons for poverty in India include illiteracy, absence of unity, large size of the family and social backwardness. People are unaware of the laws which benefit them. So they are not able to take advantage of the laws. They cannot work efficiently since they don't get nutritious food.

ABSENCE OF IMPLEMENTATION OF LAND REFORMS

The objective of land reform law was to redistribute land and to provide land to the landless farmers in particular. Unequal distribution of income has intensified the problem of poverty. Its implementation was not effective.

UNEQUAL DISTRIBUTION OF DEVELOPMENT BENEFITS -

Development programmes have benefitted the rich more than the poor and the weaker sections of the society. Only the rich farmers are benefited with investment in agriculture out of modern technology, irrigation, loans, subsidy, etc.

UNEQUAL DISTRIBUTION OF LAND AS A REASON FOR POVERTY -

About 26% agricultural land is in the hands of top 3% rich farmers, whereas 55% of the bottom poor agricultural families have only 10% of agricultural land. Thus, unequal distribution of land is one of the reasons for poverty in India.

LOW AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY AS A REASON FOR POVERTY -

The unequal distribution of land, marginal farmers, meagre resources, lack of the use of latest technology, small farmers, lack of full time employment in the agriculture sector are the causes due to which productivity in agriculture has remained low. Hence, ratio of poverty is higher in rural area.

DEFECTIVE PLANNING AS A REASON FOR POVERTY

After Independence, more emphasis was laid on large and heavy industry in our plans. Small and cottage industries, handicraft, etc., were neglected. Education, health and training have also were neglected.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU A LOT...!!!
