In the earlier days, California was like any other American town, i.e, agrarian, rural and housed many American settlers.

  • However, the Gold Rush which started in 1849 led to the initial development of the Silicon valley.
  • Till 1852, more than 50,000 people had migrated to San Francisco in search of  the American dream.
  • Many industrialists and business people also migrated to this region and started developing business to provide basic services to the settlers.
  • As a result, many clothing, banking and other big industries were developed in the region which provided employment and goods to the people.
  • The establishment of Stanford University also led to the rapid growth and development of this region.
  • Finally, in 1939, the establishment of the Hewlett Packard industry, led to the booming growth of the technological industries in the region.
