because the soil of these areas are very fertile and the major rivers of India like Ganga ,Yamuna etc pass through these areas so their is availability of water . these areas are the major crop production areas as many agricultural activities are done here

1. The northern plain is densely populated because this plain is formed of alluvial soil. The deposition of alluvium in a vast basin lying at the foothills of the Himalaya over millions of years ,formed this plain fertile .
2. This plain also has a rich soil cover combined with adequate water supply and favorable climate it is agriculturally a very productive part if India . So many farmers come and settle down here and people also settle here as it is best land to settle down and it also has the most facilities like transportation, communication etc.
