The spinal cord is a cylinder of nerves in the body that starts at the base of the brain and down to the vertebral canal to the backbone. It is a part of the nerves of the body which is called the central nervous system, along with the brain.

The spinal cord basically and majorly has three functions which include:

1. Reflexes - They include the involuntary response involving the brain, cord and the nerves

2. Walking - Walking involves a lot of coordination factors to allow the motion correctly. This pattern is generated by the spinal cord made of neurons which sends signal to the muscles to contract and relax, producing the walking movement.

3. Communication to different segments of the body with the brain - Signals are sent up and down using the spinal cord.
