LH, or Luteinizing hormone is released from the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland, in response increasing levels of oestrogen. LH targets the ovary. The surge of LH is responsible for the Luteal phase in the ovarian cycle in which ovulation takes place. The surge of LH stimulates the rupture of the Graafian follicle and the release of ovum into the fallopian tube.
