Many changes took place in the religious system during the Later Vedic Period comparing to the Early Vedic Age. The style of worshipping, worshipping gods etc we're changed.

Religious System in Early Vedic:

The religion in the early Vedic age was not deep. However, many theories declared that they followed Hinduism. The people in Early Vedic Age worshipped gods like Indra, Varuna, Agni, Soma etc. The word varna was only related to the occupation in Early Vedic age. The style of worshipping was normal. Not many sacrifices or rituals were performed.

Religious System in Later Vedic:

The religion in the Later Vedic age took deep roots in the society. People started following deep religion. The people of Later Vedic age worshipped Trimurtis. They were Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The word Varna changed into caste. The society was divided into 4 varnas. They were Brahmanas, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras. Brahmanical domination started in the Later Vedic age. Sacrifices were started and many rituals were practised.

The reason for these changes was the origin of Upanishads and other religious books.
