The Mokkochung and Tuensanj districts are abundant sources of petroleum reserves whereas lower Assam is rich in sandastone. Eastern parts of Shillong and parts of Jainita and Khasi Hills in Meghalaya are plentiful in quartz. The Chapanala, Jiyajuri and Nagaon areas of Assam have quartz, sand and glass in sizeable measures.

West Khasi Hills and East Gharo Hills are a storehouse of iron ore deposits and iron floats. Manipur has a vast quantity of lead, thorium, platinum and uranium whilst West Sikkim has substantial copper reserves and gold traces. Meghalaya has extensive resources of uranium, kaolin, carborundrum, silmanite, dolomite and phosphates.

Answer:

The North Eastern region of India is a treasure home of valuable mineral resources.

Explanation:

It is because the North Eastern region of India consist the large amount of mineral resources apart from other states in India. In the North Eastern region, Meghalaya is famous for uranium, coal, and limestone. Assam is widely known for its mineral resources. The exploration of minerals in the state comprises mainly petroleum (crude), natural gas, coal and limestone. Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) is the most profitable public sector organisation in the state. Assam is endowed with varieties of other minerals such as sillimanite, base-metals, beryl, building and road metals, asbestos, fire clay, kaolin, Fuller's earth, mica, quartz, dolomite etc. But the extraction of most of these minerals are not economically viable at present. The gold extraction from the river Subansiri dates back to earlier than eighteenth century.
