Stomata consists of a stomatal opening which is surrounded by two kidney shaped cells called stomata.the opening and closing of the stomata is controlled by the guard cell . when water flow in the guard cell, they swell and become curved and cause the pore to open . on the other hand when the guard cell lose water they shrink and become straight and close the stomata pores

The cells that surround the stomata are known as the guard cells. The guard cells have their inner walls thicker and inelastic as compared to the outer walls. When potassium ions leave the guard cells, water also leaves these cells and they become flaccid and closes the stomata. On the other hand, when potassium moves into the guard cell, water gets into the cells and they become turgid opening the stomata.
