The Himalayas, geologically young and structurally fold mountains structure over the northern borders of India. The Himalayas are loftiest and one of the most nugget barriers of the world.
It was formed due to breaking and drifting of the Gondwana land and thus, making it a part of the oldest land mass. The part of Peninsular plateau lying to the north of Narmada river covering a major area of the Malwa plateau called Central Highlands. Peninsular Plateau contain of Western and Eastern Ghats folded by the volcanic activities in the area.
Northern Plains are drained by three River system- The Indus, Ganga and Brahmaputra along with their tributaries. They deposit alluvial soil in vast basin lying to the foothills of Himalaya.
