During the 19th century, trade flourished and an expansion of markets was witnessed but it had a darker side too. At some places, this growth and development implied loss of freedom and livelihood. The process of colonisation took place after the large scale industrialisation. The European nations conquered many countries by destroying their indigenous social, cultural, economic and political set up.
