Explanation:
From walking to riding a horse, from riding a horse to riding a bike, from riding a bike to driving a car and sailing a boat, from those to driving a plane, people’s way of transporting improved a lot throughout periods of times.
Today, transportation provides people with a way to carry goods from places to places. It is meant for people to save their times. In every urban areas, transportation in all forms have a big impact on the society and economy. The transportation system had developed so well that people now rely on the system every single day. Although, transportation benefits our society, it damages the environment. Transportation has some SERIOUS negative effects on the environment.
Just like a coin, transportation has a double side. It conveys socioeconomic benefits, but at the same time, it impacts our environment. The growth of transporting activities has been playing a negative role on our environment from the beginning. And first of all air quality is what it’s impacting. From all the vehicles, marine engines and aircrafts, the gas particles that effects the air quality and human body are released. These lethal particles such as : lead (Pb), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2; not a pollutant), methane (CH4), nitrogen oxides (NOx), nitrous oxide (N2O) is repeatedly released every single day to harm us. When the polluted toxic air is inhaled into our lungs, it increases the risk of getting cancer and other related diseases. This causes many deaths every year, which upsets me all the time.
I wish transportation only affects air quality, but it doesn't. It also caused noises. Transportation causes so much high and chaotic noises every day that can directly harm and damage the hearing system of us. These negative noises can also make a person’s characteristics disturbing and unpleasant in a long term effect. And lastly, the high noises spreads people in urban areas, and force them to move out from where they live. This leads people to expand the urban areas, which eventually destroys the land for agriculture.
The transportation’s biggest negative impact is its impact to the water system and wildlife habitat. Transportation impacts the quality of water and divide the life habitat of animals. The particles of rubber, oil and many other pollutants from vehicles are deposit on the roads all the time; when there is rain, these particles are flowed within the rain. They can flow to the nearest rivers, lake, seas to pollute and even kill the livings inside of it. Also, people need roads for the transportations, so we take up wildlife habitats and divide them into half or many parts if needed. This is lethal and negative for the wildlife themselves in order to service in an incomplete life cycle.
Even though, Transportation benefits us, our society, and economy directly by being efficient, it has many negative impacts that harms our environment. A damaged environment is extremely incapable for us to live in it and there is not so many environments that we can live in now days. Now after learning the negative effects of environment, I hope you can do your best to not rely on them too much to protect the environment.
