Plastids are double-membrane organelle which are found in the cells of plants and algae. Plastids are responsible for manufacturing and storing of food. These often contain pigments that are used in photosynthesis and different types of pigments that can change the colour of the cell.

There are three types of plastids:

i) Leucoplasts: These are colorless plastids which help to store nutrients.

ii) chromoplasts: These are the colorful plastid found in floral leaves, they are of many colors due to the presence of carotenoid. It helps in attracting the insects and animals for pollination .

iii) chloroplast: These are the green plastids which are found in the green parts of the plants , which helps to make carbohydrates during to the process of photosynthesis.
