Genetic variation is increased by meiosis when Recombination or crossing over occurs during prophase I. Homologous chromosomes – 1 inherited from each parent – pair along their lengths, gene by gene. Breaks occur along the chromosomes, and they rejoin, trading some of their genes.

1)Spindle fibre are attracted to the centromere of the chromosomes.

2)The centromere of each chromosomes divide and the two sister chromatids now form to daughter chromosomes. 3-)The contraction of spindle fibre pulls or drags them away from the equator towards the opposite pole.
