The internal walls of the stomach has number of gastric glands . They secret gastric juice .It contains HCL and enzymes. HCL kills the bacteria present in the food and protects us from their harmful effects. and HCL also acts as another stomach cover apart from mucus to avoid the pepsin to digesting the entire the stomach.
