Northern Plains have fertile soil which is needed to grow crops. They are drained by rivers Ganga, Brahmaputra, Indus. So, to feed country Northern Plains are necessary. The northern plains in general and Punjab in particular is the wheat bowl of India.The Northern Plains are important to India because of the following reasons:

(а) Extremely fertile and good for crops.

(b) Rivers are navigable throughout the year,

(c) Flat land- good for roads and railways,

(d) Irrigational facilities.

(e) For construction of H.E.P. Plants.
