The significance of the zeroth law of thermodynamics is that it deals with the thermal equilibrium of the system and temperature. It is described below.

  • According to the Zeroth law of thermodynamics, "if there are three bodies A, B, and C such that A is in thermal equilibrium with C, and B is in thermal equilibrium with C, then the bodies A and B will also be in thermal equilibrium with each other".
  • And, under the condition of thermal equilibrium, there will be no exchange of heat among the bodies. Or, we can say that the net heat exchange is zero between two bodies if the two are in thermal equilibrium.
  • This law is significant as it states that temperature is a fundamental or basic indicator of thermal equilibrium. It further signifies that if two bodies are in thermal equilibrium with each other, the two bodies will be at the same temperature, and vice versa.
