The year of 1848 was year of bad harvest in France. Also population rose during that time. This led to a situation of pauperism in France and in different parts of the Europe. There was also large scale unemployment. Barricades were erected and Louis Phillippe was forced to flee. National Assembly declared France a Republic. National Assembly granted all males above 21 suffrage and guaranteed the right to work. Also it set up many National workshops to provide employment.

The revolution of 1848 in France brought about a renunciation of sovereignty from constitutional monarchy to a Republic.
