WE KNOW INDIA IS A FEDERAL COUNTRY.WE ALSO KNOW THAT IN INDIA THERE ARE THE THREE TIERS OF THE GOVERNMENT NAMELY UNION GOVERNMENT,STATE GOVERNMENT AND LOCAL LEVEL OF THE GOVERNMENT. NOW YOU MUST BE THINKING WHAT MAKES INDIA A FEDERAL COUNTRY. WELL YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT THE LEGISLATIVE POWERS IN INDIA AMONG THE GOVERNMENT IS DIVIDED IN DIFFERENT LISTS

THOSE LISTS ARE :-

  • UNION LIST :-

THE SUBJECTS MENTIONED IN THIS LISTS ARE OF THE NATIONAL IMPORTANCE LIKE THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS,NATIONAL DEFENCE OF THE COUNTRY etc. THE REASON FOR INCLUDING THESE SUBJECTS IN THIS LIST IS THAT WE NEED THE UNIFORM LAWS OR POLICIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY ON THESE SUBJECTS AND UNION GOVERNMENT ALONE CAN MAKE LAWS ON THESE SUBJECTS.

  • STAE LIST:-

THIS LIST CONTAINS THE SUBJECTS OF THE STATE AND LOCAL IMPORTANCE SUCH AS AGRICULTURE, POLICE, IRRIGATION etc. AND STATE PARKS ALONE CAN MAKE LAWS ON THESE SUBJECTS.

  • CONCURRENT LIST:-

THIS LIST CONTAINS THE SUBJECTS OF TBE COMMON INTERESTS OF BOTH THE UNION GOVERNMENT AND THE STATE GOVERNMENT.BOTH THE GOVERNMENT CAN TOGETHER MAKE THE LAWS ON THESE SUBJECTS.

WHAT ABOUT THE SUBJECTS WHICH DON'T FALL IN ANY OF THE LISTS.

THEY ARE KNOWN AS THE RESIDUARY SUBJECTS AND UNION GOVERNMENT MAKES LAWS ON THESE SUBJECTS.
