Discovery :

  • Golgi Complex was discovered by Camilo Golgi.

Structure :

  • Golgi Complex is a one of the four organelles forming the Endomembrane System.

  • A severely folded vesicular membranous structure which is made up of units called Cisternae.

  • Further , it's divided into cis phase and trans phase based on its proximity to the Endoplasmic Reticulum.

Functions :

  • Primary function of the Golgi is related to modification and transportation of Proteins. It recieves proteins from the RER,which it modifies into Glycoproteins.

  • The cell organelle Lysosome arises from Golgi.

  • Golgi Complex is also involved in Intra-cellular transportation.
