Process of sexual maturation is gradual and takes place while general body growth is still going on. Some degree of sexual maturation does not necessarily mean that the body growth or mind is prepared for a sexual act or for carrying children.
We must consider the possible health consequences of having sex. There are several diseases which are sexually transmitted from an infected person to another person. Such diseases are called as Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) or venereal diseases.

Hope this helps.
