Explanation:

There are three types of cropping patterns:

  • Mixed Cropping: Growing two or more crops simultaneously on the same piece of land. Minimises the risk of crop failure. multiple cropping or multicropping is the practice of sequentially growing two or more crops in the same piece of land during one growing season instead of just one crop. It is a form of polyculture

  • Inter-cropping: Growing two or more crops simultaneously in the same field in a definite pattern. Intercropping is a multiple cropping practice involving growing two or more crops in proximity. The most common goal of intercropping is to produce a greater yield on a given piece of land by making use of resources or ecological processes that would otherwise not be utilized by a single crop.

  • Crop Rotation- Crop rotation is the practice of growing a series of dissimilar or different types of crops in the same area in sequenced seasons. It is done so that the soil of farms is not used for only one set of nutrients. It helps in reducing soil erosion and increases soil fertility and crop yield.
