What are the differences between North India and South India?

I will try to give the answer in a little different way. Many prominent writers have already given the historical background where most of the differences can be rooted back. I will try to first debunk few myths and give answer on modern day perspective.

Myths:

Above South India everything is not North India! There are West India and East East India as well. They have significant cultural distinction from other parts. It’s the worst and biggest wrong perception often people have.

2. North Indians don’t have Culture!!! Trust me this is an insult. I admit South India being a bit conservative and in North India people do have open culture but that doesn’t mean people don’t have their own culture or they don’t respect it.

3. North part is very problematic compared to South: Well not always! Kashmir seriously is an issue needs to be resolved but people in North India also live peacefully and with strong and cordial harmony with each other. Few exceptional cases can’t be taken as a norm.

4. North Girls are very easy going and can be easily picked up: Trust me this kinda comments are detrimental and disheartening to any society. We should never generalize ladies like that. There are many conservative families reside in North India as well and strictness is also followed very rigorously. But, I always believe in personal freedom of speech and dress. And JUST BECAUSE A GIRL IS WEARING SHORT DOESN'T MEAN LOOSE CHARACTER!!!!

5. South Indian food is boring: No!! Hell No!!! Their food habit and taste are different than north but they do definitely know about food really well. There are many dishes which will bring water in your mouth. Don’t forget about Hyderabadi Biriyani. Masala Dosa originated from South India!

Now, let me tell you the other part of the story- why this kind of archaic myths exist. Because for a very long time, before globalization people didn’t mingle with other states as much as they are doing now. Many North/ West / East Indians stay in South India and Vice Versa. So now, there is a cultural overlap now a days are people are getting to know each other. We should never forget that irrespective of whatever part we belong to, what language we speak in - ultimately we all are Indians. We should straightaway remove this kind of distinction and live in harmony. The best example would be Indian Army to learn from. THere are different regiments, different paltans but they only chant, breathe, live by one name - INDIANS!!
