hey guy...

Therefore it's main function is to transport water to cells that need it (e.g. from the bloodstream/tissue fluid in humans and other organisms, and from the xylem in plants) allowing cells to dissolve substances (as there is an aqueous environment; water is the main component of the cytosol of the cell cytoplasm) so that chemical reactions can occur in the cells, therefore the metabolic processes such as aerobic respiration, digestion, cell division, and protein synthesis that sustain life can be carried out, allowing the organism to survive. Water can pass directly through the phospholipid bilayer if cells in organisms via passive diffusion/osmosis as it is a small uncharged molecule. Cells also need water to maintain their osmotic pressure, ensuring that they do not shrink (due to being hypertonic) or swell and burst (due to being hypotonic).

×Osmosis is a movement of water from an area of higher water concentration to an area of lower water concentration down the water concentration gradient through semepermable membrane water can pass directly through the phospholipid bilayer if cells in organisms.
×The main function used to transport water in cells where where they need it
