The ears are equilibrium which detects acceleration and like the ears, the lateral lines also sense vibrations.
They have basic vertebrate eyes which are made up of cones and rods. They can detect colors and specific wavelengths.
Taste buds have been well developed in order to accept or reject a prey.

The characteristics and physiology of Bony fish are as follows:
1. They have a hard calcified skeleton and a solid cranium to protect their brains.
2. They have hinged jaw for feeding. While other fishes like lampreys and hagfish do not have jaws.
3. They have unique ear plates which are known as otoliths. They help them to maintain their equilibrium.
